    Uttt Oh

I was just looking at a local forum and came across something enticing, complete 351 EFI for $100. Hrmm... Its a long shot, but If I keep my 3.08s and power my beast with a 351 do you think I could pull down 20mpg? More highway than city of course.

    What about emmissions... Scott?

Put cats on it and keep the EFI and it should be able to sneak through emissions. You'll also need the EGR system intact. The tricky part is finding the right intake and ECM.

I know a truck intake is too tall, but couldnt I use a truck/van computer? Otherwise megasquirt looks like something Id like to try out.

          My 90 F150 with a 351 EFI/E4OD set up gets 12-14 mpg on a good day. Usually it's closer to 10-11mpg.

If you go with an Edelbrock EFI lower than you can use one of their 302 uppers which are as short as the stock 302 upper.

I think truck ECMs are batch fire, so you'd need to do some re-pinning on the ECM harness to make it work. There are only 2 fuel injector output pins vs the 8 our cars have. I've seen on fordfuelinjection.com where someone swapped from batch fire to SEFI so if you follow what they did in reverse you could do it easy enough. Fuel economy isn't so hot with those, as the injectors would fire even if the cylinder wasn't ready to accept fuel. The fuel would lay in the intake till the valve opened, then it would run in instead of being properly atomized.

Why can't u run a Mustang/Mark VII ECM on a 351? I know the ECM was designed for a 302 but it should still work as the firing order is the same.

It wouldn't deliver enough fuel. Probably a chipped Mustang mass air one could do the job but I don't think a stocker would make it run worth a damn. Lightning ECM would do the job tho.

Is the Lightning a SEFI system like our cars? How about using a stock Mark VII computer (to retain the cruise) and swapping the injectors to something bigger - won't that take care of the fuel delivery?

24lb injectors and a decent MAF meter should be all you need for a 351 with a mild cam and a Mustang ECM.

Very tough to get 20mpg with a factory ECM on a 351W
