    coolant temp sensor

I tried changing my coolant temperature sensor and ending up shearing it in half today. I don't know why it did that, it just sheared right in half so half of the brass sensor is in the coolant temp housing. Can I easily replace the housing that the coolant temperature sensor is in, or is it worse than I thought?

Chances are if your temp sensor was in bad enough shape to break, the neck/pipe that screws into the intake manifold might break also, its make of monkey metal.
If you dont have em, get lots of rust buster solvent and a small propane torch. Let some penetrator soak in multiple applications and apply gentle heat to the manifold all around the pipe. (after blotting up excess spray)
Then pray you can get it out. Replacing it is no sweat, you can use brass pipe fitting from Lowes. Just typing about it makes me want to do it to mine just to see shiney new things under the hood, HHmmm...

You could also try to drill and extract the rest of the sensor out of the pipe with a simmilar heat method, but Id think it would be easier to take out the whole thing.

+1 on the heat thing. Thats how we had to get my coolant pipes out of my lower intake when I changed it. Stupid thing was seized in the manifold.

Thanks for the advice, the housing came right out with some rust solvent and a small propane torch that I borrowed from my friend. Took 20 minutes and so far the new brass housing isn't leaking after a 20 mile drive. Its nice to be able to get the car to idle again.
