90 Town Car Headers vs. Stock Shorty Headers

I've been looking around for a mustang catted h-pipe but I don't know if I can afford to replace the entire single exhaust system, let alone afford the h-pipe. I heard that 1990 Town Car headers will bolt up to the stock exhaust system and I was considering putting them in if I go with a stock dual exhaust setup.

What are the differences between them and stock mustang shorty headers? Also, will there be a noticeable difference if I upgraded to stock dual exhaust system?

Stock 90 exhaust is a tubular manifold. Its not really a header. It probably has marginal flow improvement. They will, however, bolt up perfectly to your stock exhaust and engine. You'll get more out of the dual exhaust, especially if you can get a better flowing muffler than stock. I've found 90 Towncars at Shorty's from time to time, and thats not too far from you in King of Prussia.

I'm going with a modified Panther H-pipe, Flowmaster 40-series mufflers, 2.5" Impala SS tail pipes and Marauder tips. I'm not going to do headers and high flow cats until I'm running better heads.

Just remember the impy tails are 3 piece. You'll need to get extensions made to go between the impy over the axle piece and the tips...

How long do the extensions have to be?

Are these straight pipe sections or do they need bending? I want exhaust to be totally mandrel bent after the cats.

I think you'll need some slight tweaking, and the ends will need to be bent down if you wish to keep it stock-appearing. It'll probably need a slight upward bend so the pipe tucks up into the area between the gas tank and fender like stock. Straight pipe would hang lower but could possibly work if you don't mind it hanging down a bit.

I'm going to an exhaust shop that can mandrel bend these 2 ft. extensions. I want to keep it 2.5" all the way to the Marauder tips.

Most exhaust shops do not have the equipment to make mandrel bends.

That's why my bends are ugly. But hey it was 40 bux for 6 feet of pipe bent from midas.

The impy over the axle pieces end quite high up in the trunk side area facing straight back. Straight pieces will probably work fine. If anything, they will need to be turned down at the end for the tips.

Can they figure out the "extensions" or do I need to give them some tips?
