I think my oil pressure is good, I was leaking oil from the valve covers B4. It might be detonation I think, My timing is off I'm sure. Do you think with the vacuum advance it throws it off and causes it to detonate? My rockers are torqued to 20 ft/lbs per specs from the manual.

Turns out my timing was way off. I shoulda checked it first but I was trying to get the cam broken in and all the other routine stuff. I might try around 12* tomarrow. I have it set around 10* now. It still wont idle good when its hot but I just got a vacuum gauge for it. I got to set the tv higher first tho.

Alright, I put in the new thermostat, and it still overheats. Could I be running really lean? I cheched it against my vac gauge, its around 7 now. Not sure if its a good reading with the cam. Its says late timing on the gauge I'm still working on it. I got it to idle good. It sounds nasty . My throttle cable wont open the butterfly all the way, so I think thats what is wrong with the TV. I'm almost there.

7 inches at idle is terrible. Either you have a bad reading or you have issues such as valves not closing all of the way. Do a compression check. At 7 inches of vacuum, your power valve would be open all of the time and you would be running pig rich. Overheating can be either a head gasket leak in the worst case or a plugged cooling system, bad/wrong water pump, advanced timing, etc. You could have air trapped in your cooling system behind your thermostat. Run a thermostat with the hole in it with the hole up. I think AutoZone carries these in their premium brand.

I got the vacuum up to around 15 now. I cant figure out how to lower the float bowl levels. Its pouring out of the screws :cuss:

How did you get them up?
When you loosen the flat headed screw on top of your needle/seat assy, you are able to screw the assy down or up to lower or raise the float level. This is where see thru bowl plugs come in handy. You lower the level so that you can't see it then raise it slowly so that if you bump your fender a bit, the level will rock into the sight area. The sight plugs are on the side of your bowls. It is much easier if you have someone with you who has done this at least once instead of diving into tuning a Holley blind.

Thanks, I got the vacuum up by tuning the mixture screws. Then only issue now is that the float bowls are POURING gas out of the sight plugs. I looked at the tangon the float and I didnt bend it. WTF I cant get it to run now and its starting to pop and I had flames coming out of the carb

You adjust the floats with the motor running. The 2 large head flat screws in the center of your bowls as viewed from the top are the screws that I an talking about. The nut beneath is what you turn to raise and lower the floats.
You aren't using the factory high pressure pump are you? If you are you could be pushing the needles off of their seat.

Mechanical carter 6 psi fuel pump. I took off the float bowls and adjusted the floats like holley described, now the linkage on the carb is sticking :cuss: . It started alot better than before but now the linkage sticks and the car reved very high and freaked me out
