Im going to need to find this and other carbswap tech in the future... Tom gave me two 4 barrel carbs the other day, for some 'inspiration'
Once I am finished, I'll write the whole procedure up and maybe a few pics. I gotta get this done first

CFI is a friggin waste of money and effort, put on one of those carbs now!!!!

its treated me well so far!!!

It will be a while before i start preparing to put one of these on... I have to pay off my credit card first, then save up enough money to get a beater car to drive while doing the swap. Also to save up enough to get the intake, fuel pump, lokar kit etc... and Id like to be able to put on a nice pair of heads at that time too. :headbang:
Also I dont have any hard surface to jack the car up to drop the fuel tank... thats the main non-financial problem.

Anyone know if they make an 'adjustable' (10-40psi) electric fuel pump???
I ask becuase its possible to get time on the lift at the shop, but only for a few hours at a time.
Itd be nice if I could modify the sump and install the fuel pump at the shop and be able to drive it home with the CFI, then adjust it later to run proper pressure for the carb.

Overall, the biggest hurdle is fear of opening a can of worms... the CFI has run good for the last 5 years, Id be scared to do all this and ihave it never run right again, mess up the lokar cable and toast my transmission... Im a worrier.
Especially with things Ive never done before, and ESPECIALLY doing these things to the one thing that keeps me sane, that I love so dearly.
Id compare this to being a self taught doctor, and performing my 1st open heart surgury on my (theoretical) wife

Truth be told, you will have no problems with the lokar cable, just set the pressure somewhat high to begin with.

Then go down from there. As scott told me, its better to have too much pressure, than too little...

They make jack stands with solid bottoms for working under cars on gravel or soft ground

I did a quick search on summit and looked for some pumps with around 40 psi, 36 and 45 is all they carry and they are well over $350 :jawdrop: You can sump the tank and easily put a 6psi holley electric fuel pump where the old filter is. It would be a good idea to clean up and paint the tank too. Also do not run a mechanical fuel pump if you can afford an electric, the inlets and outlets are very close to the steering box. If you adjust it you are either in the way of the power steering pump or oil filter. Its very hard to plumb steel lines with that much clearence.

You should take a 4bbl housing and put the cfi injectors in it and make a 4bbl CFI!!!!! :drug:

              GOD DAMNIT!!!!! I HATE WAITING!!!!!!

              ITS DONE!!

I have no gas to run it on!, It will sputter with a bit of gas down the throat. which is a good sign. I need to wait for my mom to get home so I can run down and put some gas in a can and fill the tank a bit to get to the fuel pump. I still need to check the timing and check for leaks and double check the lokar tv cable.

The stupid fuel pump wont pump the fuel to the carb. I need to keep cranking for the air in the line to be sucked out and relaced by fuel. Its draing my battery tho. I gotta wait for the battery to charge for now.

I did, it sputters and rumbles. I need to prime the damn pump to get gas for it to run.

Use a pop bottle or a cap for a spray can and dump some gas in the float bowl vent on the carb(the little tube that stick up and have an angled cut ). That will fill the float bowls and allow it to run long enough to prime the fuel pump.

You might want to double check the timing and just check everything over. You could have the distributor 180 degrees off.

And don't forget to follow your cam break in instructions. The last thing you want to do is wipe out a lobe on your new cam.

it sounds damn good to me!!!

Only thing is its smoking from my breathers pretty good, should I put back on the PCV valve?

I only ran it for like 30 secs until I start to break in the cam at 3000 rpms for 20 min
