PCV is a good thing. I'd say hook it back up unless you like oil smoke rolling out of the valve covers. It also can help keep things from leaking oil by ensuring the crankcase doesn't have positive pressure.

        so its normal then?

It sorta scared me to turn it off as it was smokin pretty good

I thought since I have a carb and a cam now, I can get rid of it and pick up some hp. Apparently I misunderstood it

A PCV is the only good device to come out of emmisions standards. Keep it and use it it serves several functions.

Well it runs, albeit badly but it works. It takes a real long time to start it, and the motor shakes pretty bad. I got a pretty big oil leak by the valve covers I think, I am not sure what else would cause it. I think my lower radiator hose is leaking I hope its only that. All of that and my exhaust is very sweet smellin with white smoke :hairrais: I think the white smoke is due to its friggin cold out. There is also white fog coming out of teh carb when I shut it down. I got to check the timing, I think when I was tring to get the distributor seated I knocked it off by a tooth.

So after it was runnin I cant get it restarted so I decided to call it a night. I sure hope I dont have an internal coolant leak!

Holleys suck to tune, and you really need to read up on the procedure to get it right. Its not really hard, but unless the float is right, then it won't run for crap no matter how much you fool with the mixture screws. I would suggest getting a vacuum guage and making absolutely sure the timing is correct before fooling with it. Some people tune by ear, but I personally have better luck using a vac guage. Its easier to see small changes.

Oh, and BTW, sweet smell usually = antifreeze. Water in the cyls will also make it run like total crap. Hopefully its just a leak at the intake gasket or possibly a cracked intake manifold. If it wasn't doing this before, I really doubt you've popped a head gasket but anything is possible.

It doesnt smell too sweet, which is why I am sorta hoping I dont have a leak. It smells like a newer car not like it used to. And its like 15* degrees out so I think thats the smoke. Once I get it running, it runs kida like crap but it wont quit or hesitate, I have to lower my curb idle down, its way to high. Mostly its like near impossible to start.

I was expecting it to smell very rich and like total ass with the cats. Not sweet. I dunno, I always think the very worst when things arent right with my car. I'm sorta paranoid cause I value it so much.

Go over and make sure your firing order is dead on. I cant remember the order but double check anyways, then adjust your timing.

If it smells like a newer car it might be running lean, as newer cars run leaner than old ones.

                              JEEZUS!!!

I had it running pretty well, so I took it up the street. It keeps stalling out at stop lights and has no pickup when you get on it only a nasty ticking sound. When I floor it not even, I get an awefull ticking clicking sound that freaks me out. Its overheating so I am getting a new thermostat. I think my timing is way off, and my TV pressure cant be good. Any help in carb tuning troubleshooting would help and what would be a good spot to set the timing at?

Pull your plugs dude...you could have an intake coolant leak. White smoke is often coolant, especially with a sweet smell. Your timing should only be 10 BTDC.
