Keep in mind that in 3rd and 4th the torque converter is not part of the driveline, so it being wore out will have no effect on 3rd or 4th.

I know that. It goes like hell on the highway but its a pig off the line. It will not spin the tires, and they're damn near bald. It does decent burnouts in the rain but dry road forget it. First gear has always felt weak. Its actually no stronger with this motor/trans combo than the beat up lo-po motor/original tranny setup under about 50 mph. It was a used one that had been rebuilt by who knows where. I'm not pissed or anything, the price was right when I needed it, and its gotten me around reliably for 6 months. Still waiting on the verdict but I'd not be surprised if a couple seals and a converter fixed it up nicely.

Got the verdict, its dead. Had metal and clutch material in the pan, probably from me towing stuff with it. Also, in the process of fixing my screwed up engineering job on the shift linkage, the rear brake line blew out. I forgot to support the tranny when I yanked the motor, and it was hanging by the linkage, which caused the bracket to hit the brake line. Fixing the bracket took pressure off the brake line, which of course promptly blew out. Always somethng with that friggin car. It has a nice fresh rebuild with a higher stall converter and a shift kit installed now, so it should be just fine. No more towing with it tho I don't think. The Chevy does a far far better job of it anyway.

Oh because I'd screwed with the linkage adjustment? Yeah, my engineered shift lever didn't quite fit in there the same as the correct part does.
