The AOD Transmission is a Fucking Grease-Dripping Whore!

My AOD sucks. It feels as though it puts no power through to the wheels when I'm on the throttle. It also misses shifts and makes the car feel like I'm dragging something when I lay off the throttle. I think there may be a leak, but it may be power steering. I found a loose connector and tightened it.

What is it? Fried OD bands? Stuck valves? Valvebody on its way out? Torque converter? Man, I wish I had an 01+ 4R70W in this thing- it'd fucking rule!

I planned on installing a TransGo after the holidays- would that help, or send her to hell in a whorehouse a lot quicker? Maybe a rebuild is needed?

    Any advice is appreciated...

Im willing to get you can get one built to those specs for about 1400 bucks.

And this will be able to take 4-500hp...

And the shifts would really harsh, too!

I'm going through my 4R70W AOD in the next couple weeks. So I'll get to see first hand how different it looks. Maybe, I'll build some myself in the future.

Sounds alright to me. I known I can swap a V6 Stang 4R, but I heard they suck in comparison to the Modular 4R's. A friend of mine is a tranny tech, so I think he could build me one.

Does anyone know where I can find a complete 4R gearset/ rebuild kit?

you can build them stronger if needed. I didn't have plans for it at the time so I didnt have it built better. You know you want the OD :smirk:

I bought the FRPP wide ratio kit and sent it to the builder. If you had a donor 4r70w the 1400 price can drop a good bit

I sent mine in for a shift kit and service, find out the front and rear seals are leaking at a substantial rate now, and he thinks the torque converter feels like its not quite right and sucking too much power. Certainly would help explain why my car has shit for power under 3k rpm. Hopefully its just a matter of some new seals, better converter since the trans is out, and the shift kit install to make it happy again. Failing that, I have a line on a good rebuilt one. Its always something. Goddamn cars are money pits.

They cannot imagine how much I resent and disdain them, or just how great a threat they would face if I could get at them. Everything in their behavior speaks of insult and presumptuousness, and for now it is all I can do to make constructive use of my anger toward them. At this time, I just make a list of them and keep a watch on. Some day, with the help of time, space, and circumstance, I will be able to humiliate them properly - not in a manner they would enjoy, but in a style calculated to make them wish that they had never been born.

Keep in mind that in 3rd and 4th the torque converter is not part of the driveline, so it being wore out will have no effect on 3rd or 4th.
