    Faulty Transmission?

    I've only had my car about a GM about a week and i have noticed some problems with it. One major problem is that tha tranmission seems to jump on me. This car is a three speed automatic. When i get going about 40 the car is revves up loudly and just when you think the damn thing is going to explode it jumps into the next gear and jerks pretty badly. Can anybody tell me what to do about this? it we be much appreciated.

    Sounds like a transmission in dire need of a service. Probably the filter is gummed up and the valves in the body are sticky. Did this car sit for a long time? If so thats probably why. Service it (not sure if the C6 has a drain plug in the converter, someone will know) and see if it helps. Might also want to throw some magic transmission fix stuff, perhaps a bottle of Seafoam transmission stuff, for a few days before servicing it to help break up the varnish.

      Well the car was actually sitting in an old lady's garage for ten years. But i will drain the transmission oil or take it into a shop and find out whats wrong with the thing. Thanks.

        Sounds like the vacuum modulator is either set too high, or toast. also check for a leaking, broken, or missing vacuum line going to the modulator. i would also check the kickdown rod adjustment, and check for binding, or bent rods. A fluid, and filter change are definitely in order, as the car sat for a long time.

          Excessively high shift point from 1st to 2nd is definitely a symptom of a missing vacuum line.

              yep - also if you find the transmission end of the vacuum line and pull it, if any fluid comes out you need the valve.
              After replacing the mod valve in my 77 II it shifted better than ever.

                oh yeah, I forgot this was a car with a vac modulator tranny. my bad. Could be simple cracked vacuum lines then.

                  Hey I fixed it. Me and my dad were in the middle of changing the transmission oil and i took a look at the vacuum modulator and the hose had come loose. I replaced that and the oil and it runs better than ever. Thanks for all the help.
