    exhaust

will the exhaust sound good if i cut the muffler off an 84 grand marquis and run a y pipe instead

If you do anything, do a dual exhaust that is at least 2.25" It'll sound good, and the performance gain will surprise you.

As for cutting the muffler off, and running the y. It'll be somewhat loud and sharp sounding. I ran my factory duals w/o mufflers. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either.

no mufflers just makes noise, not good exhaust sound. I'm with mrltd about upgrading the exhaust. Even stock 2" duals are rated a 10 hp gain from the factory, and the stock 4 catalytic converter and sucky manifold exhaust system is not exactly free-flowing.
