Has anyone here run mufflers dumped in front of the rear axle on a daily driver? I ran my car for a few days with just the H-pipe and that was deafening but with mufflers and some turn downs that should get most of the noise behind the cabin. I found a used pair of dynomax bullet mufflers Im interested in running but I dont think they'll match up to my tail pipes so I just want to run them with turn downs. Any sound clips?

I run my Townie with no mufflers or tailpipes, the only sound dampening is provided by the 4 stock cat-converters. My exhaust ends right behind the cats with some 45deg turn downs, here's a pic (clicky):
Basically I unbolted the y-pipe and bolted the turn downs in its place, and I do drive that beast daily - it sounds real loud in the beginning, but then you get used to it. The turn downs really make a difference though, without them I could hardly hear my thoughts inside, and now there's no more need to shout when talking to the passengers. You should be much better off, since the exhaust will end all the way in the back and not right under your feet, and you will actually be running mufflers.
Oh, and by the way, today I'm probably cutting off the main cats, I just don't like them there + my car's running rich so I'm quite likely plugging them with unburnt fuel and shit every time I stomp on the gas.

The bullet mufflers I wanted sold but Im still thinking about a cat-less H-pipe to make my car a lil noiser and still be able to swap back my stock H for emmisions time. My super turbos with 4 cats are too quiet.
And yea, turbo vans rock. I'd love to have a minivan that goes faster than the average camaro....
You could use that label on a colony park/country squire too! Twin turbo 302 anyone?-Matt

I'm still running the stock "4 cats into the Y-Pipe only" setup. It sounds wicked after I start it up. I get a wicked mean, ballsy sound out of it. I love riding next to another car in traffic and flooring it as I go by. I know they can hear me. It's loud and evil-sounding at 5am, so I quickly back the car out of the driveway and coast down my hill. While climbing the hill, it gives off this loud drone that will give you a headache. The complete exhaust is going on in the Spring after all the road salt is gone. (I am jealous of all the "Boston area 4.6L taxicabs" once CVPIs with the dual exhaust trails out of their tailpipes when it's cold out).
