WILL A H.O. CAM WORK WITH CFI SYSTEM?
I need to buy a cam all the good ones i see are for the H.O engine. will that work?
will i need to change my firing order?
i don't want to switch comp, distributer or any thing els yet.. i need to have this car done by dec 23!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if it is for a 302 H.O. 88+ then it will not work. Those are hardened cams for use with roller lifters. They usually use a aggressive ramp that flat lifters cannot handle, the cam might actually grind the lifters down.

There are alot of cams for the non-roller 302

i told you I would donate my HO CFI computer to you if you did this! It takes all of 5 minutes to swap out.

to answer your question, no HO cam will work with CFI unless you change the computer

An HO cam will work, if it's for a windsor 84 and earlier. In 85 the mustangs got the roller cams. The distributor gear is different for those also. All 5.0L cars 86 and up all had roller cams.

There are tons of options for a non roller performance cam. That's all you need. Firing order between HOan standard isn't an issue. Just make sure you get a flat tappet cam....generally they are way less expensive also.

use the stock cam and 1.7 roller lifters so there will be no question on your driveability issues

As far as I know all the wires and connectors are the same. If the MPFI HO and non-HO computers are plug-and-play interchangable (as far as ignition and sensors are concerned) than I think its safe to assume the same applies for CFI - as long as its EEC4.

I plugged in my HO CFI computer in place of mine just out of curiosity and the car ran, just very very lean (I didnt drive it)

The main reason an HO cam or any cam with more lift is becuase the vacuum readings will be different and thats how the computer senses load. It might run, but it wont run right.

it all makes sence now. i think im going to use the stock lift cam for now. maybe next year when i put the Holly 4 barrel lowrider carb on it i'll install a bigger cam. a huge lift cam like 650 lift... OOO YYAAAAaa

might need diferent pistons and definatly new valve springs for that much lift. also with that much lift you will have very poor low end.

thats if it has an idle. i would need to keep my foot on the gas to keep it runing. but i love the way it sounds
