    gauge set-ups

What do you guys have for gauge set-ups? Since S.U. is parked, I'd like to start planning to install gauges. I'd like temp, oil pres., volt., and tach. I want to keep it fairly simple and clean looking. I like the clean stock look and want to avoid big out-of-place-looking gauges. I'd go digital, but I think that gets a bit too pricy.

check out my guage install sticky for some sensor hook up how to... good luck finding a spot that doesnt look out of place! Id say under the dash, just to the left of the ashtray - or loose the ashtray and put them there.

I can't remember who did it, but someone here has installed gauges into the stock cluster and it looks amazing. I intend to do the same as soon as I get the new gauges.

      Hopefully, he'll chime in.

It's pretty easy to do in a towncar dash. Once i get some funds back im going to do a full autometer dash

          Pete, that's a good write-up.

I could just hand it off to these guys --> http://www.dakotadigital.com/, but who the hell has the money for that?

          It's only $600. :drug:

I removed the ashtray and stuffed my volts, oil, water gauges there. Looks nice. My tach is on the a-pillar.

I threw out my ashtray and built a little console under there that houses SunPro oil, vacuum, and amp gauges. Looks good. I got the SunPro mini tach on the dash to my left.

Old pic, looks alot better now, cleaned up some of the wiring under the dash and shit lol

I think they look best either in a console or over on the pillar. I want me some pillar guages, probably temp, oil pressure and vacuum. Maybe a/f. Right now my CB is on a hump mount so it makes anything under the dash difficult. I'm debating replacing that setup with something else tho, especially since the CB mount doesn't really fit the Townie's trans hump properly. Damn thing falls over when I make a hard turn. Just have no idea where I'm going to put the CB.

I felt that the Oil pressure and the water temp are the most important parameters to watch. Thats why i put mine high up and very visable, if something is not right i want to know immediatly to prevent further damage.

the down side to where i have it located is that it blocks a small area, just off the right front of the car.

Mine are under the headlight switch, too, but I had forgotten I even have them when the oil pressure dropped to nothing. If I'd have thought about it, I could have checked the pressure and stopped driving the damn thing. Oh, well.

Great excuse for a new motor!!

My tach is loccated somewhere people do not expect, but it is easy to see, and it's out of the way.

I was thinkin about converting a stock GM fuel gauge into a tach, with a custom backing, and having a smaller fuel guage mounted somewhere else. Any opinions?
