    Carb Gasket

I finally got a new carb, and removed the old one, the old carb has a thicker gasket, (its in between the egr spacer and carb) Now my rebuilt carb came with a paper thin gasket, I was wondering where this goes, as the gasket currently on the car is a lot thicker than the gasket that came with the rebuilt carb, any help would be appreciated thanks.

you use one or the other. The thick gaskets are useful to help with vapor lock issues. Basically it keeps heat from the intake from transferring to the carb body where it could be hot enough to boil the fuel in the bowl. I expect in stock form it used the thin gasket and someone put a thick gasket on.

By "thick" and "thin", usually the thin ones are about 1/16" thick and the thick ones are more like 5/16"

I would go with the thicker one. When I rebuilt my carb I used the thinner mounting gasket that was supplied with the rebuild kit and the gas in the carb would boil. I can't remember if I ordered a new thicker one or reused the original. It's weird but that little bit of space seems to make a huge difference!

There's the link to the thread where I discuss this and show the comparison. You can browse back a few pages to get some more details on the rebuild and all the fun issues I ran ran into.
