    AOD Problem

Hey guys it's been a while since I've posted. But I'm looking at a 89 CV wagon It's in pretty good shape but it has issues with the AOD. If you put it in drive it works fine but when you drive it in OD it pops out of gear occasionally. Any ideas what the problem is? Is it a problem that is a simple fix or would I be looking at a transmission swap?

The guy is asking $250 for the wagon so I think it's worth it. But I'm just hoping for a simple fix since it's getting cold out.

    Thanks.

      :stupid:

You are proboly mistaking slippage for popping out of gear. When the OD band is trashed, 4th pretty much don't hold anything past 15% throttle, sometimes even less. I cooked my direct clutch before, this resulted in 2-3 shift big ass slippage. But if I let off it would stop slipping, and then it would hold strong in 3rd. But 4th could only hold about 5% throttle.

Thanks guys. I haven't driven it yet, I'm just going by what the owner described.

I wouldn't spend the cash on having it rebuilt I'd just swap in a junkyard trans. I can still get useable AOD's for under $200. They might not last as long but I can swap them out in a weekend.

I've been itching to get another Panther since I sold my 2dr. I just located this wagon for $250 and a 90 State trooper CV for $495. I'd really like another 2 door but that's like looking for a needle in a haystack around here.

        Happy Thanksgiving!

Sounds like a decent buy. Check that TV cable, and replace the bushing if needed to keep the three speeds it still has working. And what they said about the OD band. The parts car I had blew OD totally, it would do a 1-2-3-nothing shift pattern.

                  Dear Gurus,
My 89 Colony Park lost its overdrive band the day before I was to drive from Virginia to Sturgis S.D. We got there in 26 hours. Gas mileage dropped from 21-23 to 17. We got back home all right too.
