Boxes frighten me at high speeds. I feel comfortable in my towncar but the vic is just such a damn brick.

i had my 85 up to about 4750RPM last week (about 80 in 2 or 110 in 3, not sure which gear i was in) the right pull it has get pretty scary at that speed, espically with not so good tires. The 97 will run 110-115 all day and stay solid as a rock.

I believe the 97's were the fastest year for the vics, top end that is. My towny will run 120 and feel nice and stable.

Does the '85 have stock shocks and springs or PI shocks and springs? I get that "scary floating" feeling above 80 mph in my '90 GM. If something gets in the way, stick a fork in it because it's done.

For me it just seems I can feel more wind with the box. I'll see when I finish the suspension, but she's not going to be as fancy as the towncar.

And it still feels scary at high speed?

My 87 was dropped about 2", had HD springs all around, PI shocks and sways, and was still scary at 110...

yeah thats because of the 6 year old 215/70R15 dry rotted tires, a bad right pull, and a front suspension that needs rebuilt badly.

Mine feels the same and for most of the same reasons. Tires aren't as old but they are fairly eaten due to a really bad alignment. It floats and drifts and is generally produces an uncomfortable pucker factor over about 85mph. I've pegged out the speedo but I'd never even consider holding it there for any length of time, nor would I do it on anything less than a nice open stretch of extremely flat and empty road. Once the front end is done, I'm sure it'll be a different story.

My 90 was the most stable car Ive ever driven. I would have had no reservation driving past 110 in it. The one time I almost flipped it I took a 90 degree corner with a weird messed up banking at about 60. My friend nearly piseed himself.

                            Dear Gurus,
I'm not interested in racing my '89 Colony Park (and little point in doing so). I drive hundreds/thousands of miles/ 12/26 hours (with a codriver) to dog trials and need the safest/fastest big wagon on the road. New 245/70 Avids, air shocks, rear sway bar, toe in and camber set to police specs.

In the Dakotas, this boat is solid as a rock with the speedo buried (90?) for hours and hours. I will get poly swaybar bushings next. Donald McCaig

I don't want to start any arguements, but aren't the '88-'91 cars more aerodynamic than the earlier '80s cars? Could a front spoiler and rear wing aka "NASCAR" parts make the cars more stable at speed?

maybe a tiny bit more aerodynamic but i doubt its by a whole lot. you have to figure on the fact that many of these cars are still running with original front end parts that are just sloppy. I've been in Scott's TC at (as he calls it) Ludacris Speed and it feels solid as can be. Its all in how tight the suspension is. New busings and joints all around would make worlds of difference. Tho to be honest, I'd be interested in driving back to back an 87 and an 88 , both with all new front end parts, same tires, etc just to compare it fairly.
