Please let us know if things are working or not. This is still somewhat a work in progress so don't be too surprised if things magically appear from one visit to the next.
Yep, I ended up borrowing Derek's 2G to get me the rest of the way home.
That was the only problem I had though, and I had a spare 2G at home that I thought about bringing with me but didn't and then wished I had.
Haha yup, good times man. I say throw away because I think that's what sensible people do. I'm a hoarder, if it looks good I'll keep it. Ashley is still rockin' a 2G so in the event she ever needs one it's there.
LOL. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've already started searching for an alternator.
I have a new clue I discovered this morning on the way to work. The "slight miss" this thread was started about only occurs with the AC on. I rode to work this morning and realized it wasn't happening. I threw on the AC and did the weird miss the rest of the way to work. I also noticed the lights dimmed and it missed as soon as I flipped the switch.
That seems to support what gadget was saying about low voltage & ignition problems...

I don't bother with using any of the old charge wire, and I wouldn't recommend doing so either. Its not possible to accurately fuse things with 3 current paths. Using a single cable with a single fuse will give you a known over-current level. I cut the old cables at the plug on the fender, and I unhooked the other end of the wire as well. Its still physically in place, but it goes nowhere at either end. Some later models share a connection from the charge harness to other things though, so you may not be able to do that as easily.

Is it just the compressor cycling causing mechanical drag on the engine?

Shit does this mean I should look closer before doing a 3g swap? I hate wires already so if there's other fuckery involved I may have my buddy do it. Ugh, electrical stuff sucks.
you just add one really fat wire and one skinny wire on that fat wire (to do it properly) and don't use 3 that are attached to the current one. It's 2 splices and bolting stuff on. It's really not that bad.
