changed back to stock fan from electric fan

I woke up yesterday morning and started the wagon. The one that used to be Bernie's and Pirranah's.
The electric fan controller started smoking. I said that's it, time to change it out. At the junkyard I grabbed a fan blade, fan clutch and fan shroud from an 88 Town Car. I put it all on yesterday and changed the antifreeze. Everything seemed to fit. I plan on changing the fan clutch out to a new one ASAP.
The temp gauge shows warmer with the stock fan.
With the electric fan the gauge needle would be midway, with the stock fan it moves a little more to the right. It stays between the M and the A in NORMAL.

One question is, can I use a severe duty fan clutch?
The catalogs show that a severe duty fan clutch is for use with a fan blade with a 2 1/2 inch pitch to it. I don't think the Town Car fan clutch has that much pitch.

Does anyone know what the pitch is for Town Car fan blade?

Any recommendations of brand for a fan clutch?

    Thank you,
    Mike

Yes you can. I never looked at blade pitch when picking what clutch I was going to run.

If my temp gauge was between the M and the A I would think it's running too hot.
My temp gauge never even gets to the midway point with the air on!

On all my 91's, the needle usually sits between O and R, usually on the O. I know this weekend I got it hot enough to get between R and M, and that's the hottest I've ever seen it though I was bombing through the hills.

I second converting back to a mechanical fan. I've had electric fans on two of my cars. One the fan controller failed in a huge traffic jam and left me stranded until it cooled, the other was admittedly my fault (electric fans don't cool very well if their not turned on). Either way, both got mechanical fans put in and I've never had a problem since.

I have replaced 1 controller on my fans and have melted down a few fusible links to power the fans. All looked to be damaged do to corrosion over time.

              HD fan no problem.

Just make sure the fan clutch either has the bushing in it to center it properly on the water pump, or its the type that sits snug without. If the clutch is too far off center, it will shake like a mofo and destroy the water pump. BT,DT.
