    Huge problem with my 89

    For the past year this car has been over revving to switch to the next gear last year replaced tranny fluid , flash forward to now!
    over the weekend I went ahead and replaced the water pump.. pump is doing its job but big problem is now the car runs so much worse.. unless you drive it when it's cold.. when it warms up every gear shift is nothing but revving to where you can clearly hear the engine as loud as possible trying to do something but the car is just stuck up until it finally shifts... I need help this car is breaking my heart ;/

    You may have a problem in the valve body or somewhere else.
    But assuming that the tranny is in good condition and not in need of a rebuild.
    Then try a bottle of Trans Lube or Lucas "stop slip"
    That should do it, or it will at least help a lot.

        Are the clutches gone in the transmission?

          I'm not sure what you mean by that? It is a automatic

            2nd shift is hard the other shifts are alright it's the engine revving extremely high before shift, only when the car is warmed up.. early in the morning it shifts fine for maybe half a mile

              As far as I'm aware, automatic transmissions have clutches in them.

              It could be the shift solenoid going south or losing vacuum, but I am not an expert on automotive repair and could easily be mistaken.

                Like late shifting? or actually reving and losing power like its in nuetral?

                    Like driving 30mph and car will start over revving and engine will become so loud and you will lose some power until you get to about 45 then it'll shift but until that shift it just continuous keeps getting louder

                      Well the stop slip trans fix probably didn't help with that. Have you checked the tv cable?

                          I know it's a dumb queston, but how is your fluid level. I believe it is 12-13 quart capacoty
