Fuel Tank replaced , now fuel coming out of filler neck around turns.

    Group
my 90 wagon had to have the tank replaced, thanks to the exhaust shop cutting into it by accident when making the dual exhaust for it. Dont ask
    long story

anyway they order me a new tank and installed it, and of course i think all is good, I thought i had pressure building in the tank and causing it, but then
found out the few seconds of air coming out is normal from what the list said.

BUt now i was still smelling gas and noticed after some turns on the ride home, i have gas at the bottom of filler neck inside the filler door and then
running out the rubber hose from the body , thats used for rainy weather.

So what would cause this? Am i missing something on the filler neck or the cap is bad?

Probably the fuel filler gaskets that were disturbed during the tank replacement. They SHOULD have done them at the same time. If they were replaced, then they screwed up the installation (possible since they "fucked the pooch" during the exhaust work). Either way, they need to fix it at no cost to you!!!

thankI gave them the new filler neck gasket , since everyone said the 24yr old one will be shot. ANd you can see it was used from under the car.
So how can that little rubber gasket cause gas to come back out from inside the filler neck?

There are TWO gaskets. One right there, on the filler neck you can see and the other where the filler pipe enters the fuel tank. They changed both???

Ahhh didnt know that I only saw a listing for one gasket, big black donut looking thing, with a smaller hole in the middle compared to the outside hole.
I assume thats the one were the filler neck goes into the tank, since it looks like it from under the car?

          the second one is where?

As I said, one is located, where you can see it when you fill up with gas. It's between the end of the pipe (at least the part you see) and the fender frame. The other is where the filler pipe enters the tank.

OK, so i know the one were the filler neck goes into the tank is changed, how would either cause the gas to come back up out of the filler neck around turns?
It almost like theres a valve or stop missing since the filler is so high up on the tank.

Fuel DOES slosh around and if the tank is filled, above these points, or "sloshes" up to them, a bad gasket will leak. Doesn't take much. Even a bad install with a new gasket will do this. I HAVE seen that happen as well!!

The question that you'd need to verify is if the fuel is leaking out through a bad gasket, or if it's going past that one-way valve thing where the nozzle gets inserted and getting out through or around the cap...I expect the only easy way to verify this is to drive quickly in a circle in a parking lot to splash it out a bit, then inspect where exactly it's wet. Obviously if fuel is getting out through the opening that fuel is normally put in through, it's not a gasket problem.

the filler neck may also have a rust hole in it.

Ok fuel is leaking out past the cap (bottom side) and is laying inbetween filler neck and body until enough gets there then runs out the overflow hose .
So not sure what gasket would cause this or how?
Now for the one way valve thing ?? Where is that I can see right into my filler neck

Do you not have the little flap that covers the hole that you put the nozzle into?

Somebody siphoned fuel out of mine one time and I was greeted with a bent to hell flapper doohickey as pictured above, except mine is, as stated, bent.

I need to check but I don't think I have that flapper.
                            Would that be it.?

that won't help any if it's missing, but if it's leaking out of the cap, the seal on the cap is probably bad. The cap should vent air in and keep everything inside from getting out. I would check the seal on the cap for piles of dirt and clean it and if that doesn't solve it, get a new cap.
