White smoke from the back of the motor

    Hello folks,

I once again started driving my '89 Marquis full time. Great car, wonderful ride...

Decided to give it some "special treatment" by putting some sea foam into the gas tank yesterday. Everything was fine, until today I go to Burger King and notice white smoke coming from under the hood.

Got home, opened the good, and it looks like a ton of white smoke coming from the back of the motor. Smells like coolant. Engine runs completely fine, I don't see smoke coming from the exhaust.

Any suggestions what this could be? Head gasket? Blown line? Is it in any way related to me adding sea foam? Please advise... Thank you!

Under hood coming from the back of the engine, not the exhaust and the smell of antifreeze... sounds like you could have burst one of the EGR spacer coolant line. Cheap fix, but PITA job. Probably just need some generic 5/16 fuel hose to repair it.

Found what's broken... It's one of the hoses going to or coming from the heater core. They go into this sensor thingy, and it has broken off there...

What is this part called? I don't have a whole lot of meat left on it to add the hose into it...

A little hard to tell but I think that is the thermal blower lockout switch. In you heater control is there a setting that says "Auto"?

Yes, and I have an automatic temperature sensor, which I have replaced before...

It is the blower lockout switch as Viccrownvic indicated.

Could I get the part number for it? Looked on RockAuto, did not seem to find the part... Thanks!

I'd be inclined to just buy generic heater hose of a longer length and ignore it entirely.

That is an option that numerous people select.

What it does with ATC, is control the heat in cold weather. If you have the selector on "floor" it shuts off the blower until the water temp is warm. This means you get in the car and the engine is cold the car does not blow cold air into the cabin. Then the heat comes on automatically as soon as the water is "warm" or at least not cold. Certainly this is not a critical function but one of those nice little things the car was equipped to do.

Its the thermal blower lockout. I'd replace the hose with one that doesn't have the TBL and just eliminate it. Connect the electrical wires together, plug the vacuum lines. Its a neat feature, but they are problematic at best an the new ones are of rather shoddy quality. I got 3 whole days out of one before it exploded and caused the engine to severely overheat from coolant loss. I've had the plastic connector in there for probably 5 years now without any trouble.

Looks like about $23 + shipping from Rockauto, $24 at AZ. I think I paid $15 for the one I bought more than a year ago and never installed. If I can find it and you want it for $15 I can run it over to you if you're still in Rochester Hills. I dont actually need it. I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in the trunk of my car but I'm not 100% sure where I stashed it.
