    1987 LTC engine replacement

I was wondering what motors I could use to replace the now blown(warped heads, holes in pistons, bad rings, toasted gaskets) engine. I can buy a 302 out of a 93 Ford F150 with 90,000 on it for $125 can I use it? What are my options here? Thanks in advance, B.

I wouldn't go F150 engine. if you can find one out of a Mark VII, along with the ECM, you can swap that with a little minor work to get a nice power upgrade. Most of the truck engines were lackluster at best. probably a bit more perk than the stock motor, but you'll have to swap the intake and oil pan. I'm also not positive what firing order a 93 used. It may be the HO/351 firing order. I know it changed around that time, but possibly not till 1994.

93 used the lopo firing order. I know because the 93 I had used that order.

Well I've seen many around, but they're all truck engines. And I'm kind of in a pinch being this is my daily driver and only vehicle right now. Can I use the truck motor? I'm not gonna be installing it myself so, maybe it'll be worth the money to have him do it?

If I had to do an engine swap, I wouldn't consider anything less than the HO version. For all the work, you may as well put the best in that you can find for a still reasonable amount of money.

There are explorer HO's that are used regularly. Still need another pcm and other minor items. Is there a sticky thread about engine choices?

Don't think I'm going to bother with the car. I'm going to sell it as is( still runs just doesn't run well) and the interior is mint, minus the glovebox dash pad, good tires, and beautiful body(minus rear lowers behind the wheels have tiny bit of rust) is the car worth $1500

If it needs a motor you're probably looking at a few hundred bucks honestly.

yeah these cars are a tough sell period if they don't run. Where are you located?

Exactly why are you thinking it needs a motor?

MI, but the car was originally from Florida, and I would honestly selling it to anyone here for next to nothing knowing they'll put it to good use. The interior is BEAUTIFUL. Door panels have no cracks, seats are impeccable, headliner, all lights, stereo etc etc

Not sure. I know the head gaskets are bad because it overheats, and smokes on startup. It also shakes really hard and won't keep itself running without a foot on the throttle

that may not be the case. Head gaskets seldom go bad on a 302. I'd do some more diagnostic work. A compression test would tell you the story. If all cylinders check OK, the gaskets aren't blown. Overheating could be a lot of things too, though if it was extremely overheated it could have popped the gaskets.
