they should be the same size. I think if you get 7/8 to 7/8 nipple at the hardware store, that would work. But don't hold me to it. I'm remembering this and haven't measured.

The ends at the core might be two different sizes, but they should both be 3/4" where it leaves the back of the pipe bolted to the intake and through the bulk of the other hose. I'd get a 3/4" metal elbow, and maybe a 3/4 to 11/16 reducer just in case.

My 85 and 91 were 3/4" at both sides of the heater core.

I was off by 1/8. meh. close enough :-p

so 2 3/4 nipple 90 1/2npt (one male, one female) to make a U-turn junction or just get a 3/4 OD pipe and use to couple the hoses.

Have to get to an actual plumbing store, local HDWR store only had 90 degree copper, and it was not the proper size.

Tom, the perfect thing would be a copper "U" shaped elbow with an od of 3/4 inch. I will try the despot, as there is one in lower NYC.

you might have to sweat together a pair of elbows and a short piece of copper tube to make that.

Home Despot had nada!!..........had to go to advance auto and buy the only thing they had, a brass 3/4 to 3/4 barbed hose connector.
Had a bit of a time getting one of the hoses to cooperate, but I managed to spin the hose on the outlet under the intake manifold, and then jam the two hoses together. So now no more Prestone all over the place, when the cold temps are near I will see if I have enough cash to pay for the R&R of the Heater Core, if not may just p/u one of those 12V heaters for cars.

Better be saving MUCHO $$'s for the heater core. It is A LOT of labor and generally a pain to do! Thankfully I do not HAVE to do mine. If I were up to it I would, though, just because I like to have everything working...

Glad you got it bypassed. Agree on saving the bucks to get the heater core replaced before winter. Don't waste any money on the 12 v heaters. I bought one in a pinch. It is worthless.

                          Bob,
If I were back in my old stomping grounds (Hollywood, Florida) I would never replace the core!
At any rate the R&R will cost me $800.00!........if I do move forward???

Yeah, price sounds about right. They'll probably charge "book rate" so even if they know a few shortcuts they charge the longer time. Just make sure they don't damage anything else since there are many wires and vac lines back there. Need to re-use the insulation around the core or better yet, if any damage, replace it.

Up there it makes sense. It probably books at about 6 or more hours. Core should be less than $100 (especially since they will using an aftermarket one). The rest, as you say.....WTF!
