Sounds like it's time for a top end tune up (plugs/wires/cap/rotor) and a fuel filter just to eliminate that and better diagnose the issue. easy way to test wires is to spray (with a spray bottle set on mist) water on the engine at night while it's running. lights off, hood light disconnected... watch for sparks. If you see little lightning bolts along the wires... they need replacing.

Since we're on the issue, single platinum tipped plugs are the way to go right?

I'd use what the car calls for OEM. But that's just me.....

The build sheet doesn't specify spark plug type...

Not the Build Sheet but the sticker under the hood or look up the OEM specs.

the old 302/351 liked copper plugs. The newer PI mod motors seem to like the plats... the older mod motors were fine with either.

I'll use both then. The left side head can have platinum, the right copper.

just go with copper. the plats may run too hot for your engine.

I think that's what's in there now, honestly.

you might run a smaller gap though. If it says to gap to 50... try 44 (or 34 for that matter).

                        44 gap platinum plugs then.

Use basic copper Motorcraft plugs. Fancy ones won't help, and may make it worse.

                              Well.

                              The car is back. Again.

The distributor has been replaced, and Canadian Tire insisted I retain the original one for their inspection so I had to pay the friggin' core charge.

The choke was apparently fixed and the car runs fine now.

The ultimate test will be to fire it up tomorrow and see for myself. I'll video record it even.
