There are some guys out there that still work on these old cars for a living. Just ask around with other car guys. The place I go to now is no-frills (no waiting room, no shuttle, only three guys working there) but the owner has decades of experience with older Lincolns. I found this place through other car guys' recommendations.

In case my mechanic is unable to solve the choke issue:
What would be the way to go about diagnosing it? I get that it's the choke timing thing, but would it be easier to just replace the modules entirely that are involved?Comment

you would need to determine if it is in fact a choke issue first. Most carburetor problem are in the ignition system. Make sure the timing is set correctly and that the advance and retard functions in the distributor are working. Make sure the fuel filter is clean, and make sure the plugs and such are in good shape.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I know for a fact that the fuel filter and spark plugs are mildly overdue for replacement, but surely that can't be related to the issue at hand.
Remember, the problem goes away once the engine gets about 270 degrees F or so...Comment
