Wonder what the "proper" name for a soup can is in case one wishes to obtain one??

One goes to the soup can, one goes inside the dash. That has to work as a one-way valve. The line to the soup can, and the soup can itself also need to not leak.

Wouldn't be so much fun if it was easy!

there is no check valve inside the can. Its very literally just a can with a nipple on it. The check valve is on the firewall with this one. Some did have a check valve built in to the can though. You could easily duplicate that with a can of juice from the store and some epoxy if you were so inclined.

Later panthers (basically any round kind) have the vac reservoir as part of that relay bank over on the fender basically where your soup can lives. Its the thing that most people think is a computer of some sort. Pull the relays out of it, and you are left with a simple plastic box that has a nipple on it. Mount that to your fender, hook the hose to the nipple, done. If you're feeling ambitious, you can move the stock relays around and jam them inside the relay housing cover with advanced zip tie technology to make them compatible.

Any of the round cars ought to have it. Say 1992 onward.
