1985 LTC gas gauge not working..... Now fixed but gotta load of this...

So the 85 townie hasn't had a working gas gauge since I got it... Knowing that it sat for a number of years I figured the sender was toast... So today we checked the connection key on and ok it's getting juice so we figure bad float? Sometimes they get a tiny hole in them and fill with gas causing them to sink... Well we pulled it out and low and behold here's what the float looked like..... Put a new brass barrel in and wallah. Gas gauge now works... Look at the old float. Holy shit.....

wow, thats bad. Brass will do that in the presence of water under the wrong conditions. The zinc in the brass goes away, leaving a copper sponge.
