    1985 ltc cfi... Oxy sensor

Where so the o2 sensor located. And I'm assuming it's just one correct.... Car hasn't had anything done in the last 20 years and I'm replacing things one by one... Shitty idle to say the least so I'm gonna change the o2 sensor.... Anyone have a pic of it and where it's located? Thanks.....

Oxy sensor should be in the exhaust, pre or post catalytic converter. Just look for the wires that go to a bung in the exhaust pipe. But they can be a royal pain to get out, so why not test it first. There has to be a way to test, I just forget how. If the idle is crap, it could be MAP/BAP manifold atmospheric pressure/barometric atmospheric pressure sensor or IAC idle air control sensor, but I don't know what CFI cars came with for that. Or an idle adjustment screw, or something. Someone will chime in.

Its in the exhaust manifold. IIRC passenger side.

passenger side back end of the exhaust manifold. It may not be your problem though. With CFI, its often bad vacuum lines and ignition parts that cause idle trouble. Have you checked it for codes? Only time I experienced a bad oxygen sensor on a CFI car, it ran fine but sucked a lot of gas. No codes, just got absolutely shit fuel mileage. The same car hitched and bucked under load, and that was bad plug wires.

Something else to be aware of, these have a crappy timing chain design. If its never been changed, you might want to do that before it jumps and destroys the engine. They are interference engines, and a jumped chain will smash the valves.

Gas mileage was 9-10 miles a gallon.... Replaced the o2 sensor it smoothed out the erratic idle.... The engine in the car was rebuilt in 1999 or rather replaced I found the Marshall paperwork for the replacement engine stuffed in the rear quater panel space where th rear side marker lights are accessible in the trunk.. So in 1999 when the car had 125,000 it was for some reason replaced... It now had 147.ooo on it which is 20 so e thousand on the new engine... But it's sat a lot since 99 .... I assume it has a better chain.....

one might hope. I think any replacement timing set has metal gears. The Ford OEM one had plastic on the cam gear, and once that came apart the chain got super sloppy. It was quieter, but it did not hold up over time. Possible that chain failed in 1999 and thats what prompted the replacement engine.

              UPDATE.......UPDATE.......

Ok so today I replaced the map sensor adpnd the other day the o2 sensor.... Now before these were done I went 60 miles highway driving and it took 6.5 gallons of gas so about 9 mpg 10 tops.... Today I drove the same 60 miles 30 each way same route as the other day started with a full tank before the trip just as before.... Pulled into gas station at 60.2 miles.... Amount of gas 2.4 gallons it took.... Wow Whatta vast improvement...... Huge.... Gigantic.....

that sounds a lot more correct. CFI cars are pretty miserly when they run right, but they're pigs when something is wrong.
