i ordered a camashaft off ebay (posted a topic asking about it, thought it was either an HO cam or the stock lopo cam. turns out neither is right and the listing was wrong, guy is willing to let me return it. but i'm wondering if it will work being it is for a 302. but it's the older 302. with the flat lifters instead of roller lifters like my 89 has stock. will this flat lifter cam work with my engine or won't it run right?

I also agree. If the seller is willing to take it back (what about shipping???) I would do so and wait till I had made sure of the correct part! Bobby

roller cams don't generally wear out unless a lifter craters and scores the cam. I wouldn't replace it unless converting to HO and upgrading other parts.

roller cams generally do not wear out
flat tappet cams on the other hand do
i would carefully package the flat tappet camshaft and send it back to the seller and give him positive feedback for trying to be fair.

I'd pull the lifters and inspect the cam. if the cam lobes look good, keep it. Most likely they will look good.

If you're changing the cam, replace it with something better. They seldom go bad unless the engine had horrible oiling problems. If thats the case, you'd have known about it by now.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

If it's not abused or has insane miles and is running, you can reuse the lifters and cam if you want.
Is this the same engine that overheated and melted plugs? If so, have you taken it to a machine shop to have the block and heads checked for cracks and warping?1990 Country Squire - under restoration

if it overheated enough to melt the plugs, I'd very strongly suggest having it checked for damage at the machine shop. Expect that the holes won't be the right size anymore and possibly the decks to not be true. Honestly, I'd have pulled the whole 37k mile engine and dropped it in complete. It would cost a lot less. Guy at Autozone is mostly right, but the block itself needs to be good, not just the parts inside it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
