(Question) Engine does not turn over, accessories work fine.

Yesterday I went to start up my 1991 Grand Marquis GS, to no avail.

When I turn the key in the ignition to the accessory position, the lights, stereo, and dash lights all work fine. However when I turn it to the start position everything turns off and the engine does not crank. No clicking, nothing. So I can only assume the battery is charged and fine.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
    Any way to remedy this?

Maybe something to do with the starter cable or starter itself?
Anyone have a Bay diagram for this model?

    Your input is appreciated.
    Thank you

check the battery cables on the battery and the starter and each point between (FAT ground cable too). if they are even the SLIGHTEST bit loose, it could cause this problem. This is a low current available issue (weak battery or bad contact on the terminals).

If the radio presets disappear... most likely the battery end of things.

Battery cables, solenoid on fender, power distribution box fuse, or ignition switch.

If I wiggle the gear branch, put in neutral, it fires right up. Ignition switch?

          Neutral safety switch maybe?

NSS sounds like a good possible to me but making sure the ignition switch isn't about to fall apart would be smart too. Also possible the shift linkage is a bit out of whack and its not all the way in park. Make sure the bolts on the bottom of the column that hold the shift tube assembly in place are not ready to fall out.

Definitely the Neutral Safety Switch if gear wiggly fixes it.

yeah... I call NSS if neutral works but park is spotty.

Yeah, it must have just been in a weird spot when I put it in park before. Now it starts up fine, I've put it in park and restarted it multiple times with no issues. The shifter has always been really lose.

check the mounting bolts underneath of the column. if those are loose, it will slop around and it may not quite go into park.
