    Will a 351clev starter fit a 1991 302?

    Happy Saturday All,

I have a Bosch starter (SR513X) for an automatic 351 Cleveland NIB and now have a need to replace the starter in the 91 GM with a stock302 FI.
Before I get under the car, I was wondering if anyone knew if they would swap out? The GM is an automatic also.
    I do THANK YOU again,
    Mike

Try doing a ROCKAUTO search and see if they fit both.

I tried to use a starter from a 1974 Torino 302 on my wagon. It was physically bigger. I don't remember what exactly the problem was, but size was an issue. Maybe with the exhaust manifold.

351C shares starters with the Windsor siblings.

Even if it fits (and I don't know if it will) it's likely setup electrically the same way as the older boxes and may require moving a wire or two around to work on a 90-91 box. IIRC, the conversations that I have seen seemed to indicate that the wiring set up of the newer starter may be a better design, not to mention the newer starters are nicer because they deliver more torque but require les amperage from the battery and are quite a bit smaller/lighter.

I know there are a few threads where guys have retro-fitted the newer starters on older boxes.
