      yes and no.
installing a 96 Explorer 5.0 in your car is 98% a drop in.
there are a few, small modifications to be made, but they are easy.
I've done this exact swap in my 91.

      fear not!

Need oil pan, valve covers, flexplate, timing cover, water pump and bracketery from your engine. You'll need to get the Oil filter adapter to thread in the side of the block. Depending on if it has the GT40 P heads or not will require different manifolds/headers. You'll need the fuel injectors from that motor and intakes, the fuel rail from your car. You'll swap the throttle linkages from your original throttle body to the explorer tb. You'll need a lightning EGR spacer from a first generation F150 lightning (351w lightning) or a modified HO spacer with the proper stuff added to make your bracketry to bolt up. either a Mark VII ECU or do a Mass Air conversion with an A9P computer from a mustang. You'll need more stuff done for that.

and a tune after the fact for good measure.

Do like I did and do it all at once. You're not going to be staying with the LOPO cam when you put an Explorer 5.0 in so you atleast need to convert to H.O. firing order and a Speed Density or Mass Air Ecu (add 4 wires, swap 4 pins around). Eliminate the smog equipment. Use a Explorer 65MM throttle body cut the ball stud off the throttle and weld it on the opposite end, take a mustang EGR spacer 62MM (bore it out to 65 optional) mock up your throttle cable bracket that came off the lopo egr spacer, drill/tap for a 3/8 bolt in the back of it to mount the bracket to the egr spacer similarly to how the lopo was and don't worry about drilling into the egr spacer because you won't be using the egr coolant lines anymore . Revise your vacuum setup accordingly. Pretty simple, but one thing continually leads to the next. I could write the book on what to do and what not to do thus far. I have had my engine apart DAILY for the past year and it all started because I wanted GT40P Explorer heads.
