previous owner must have got it so hot it was glowing or something

finding that sort of damage i would just drop a used engine in it......in my neck of the woods a running engine at ez-pull is around 200 if they pull it.

yeah, very bad things must have happened to that. 302's don't usually blow the head gaskets and they very seldom crack the heads in a low rpm wuss engine application like these cars got. They will with extreme heat, but thats about it. I'd be concerned about other damage from that sort of abuse. Cooked rings for example.

I would not run blue water in mine and try to find out. Here in NC, good 5.0s are hard to find. Lots of Mustang lovers here and tons of Explorer's met their doom in the C4C scheme.

I wonder if maybe the washer fluid isn't the root cause of all this. It doesn't freeze because its got a large alcohol content, but alcohol boils at a lower temperature than water or water/antifreeze does. If the fluid was boiling in the heads, it very likely created hot spots in the engine that could explain this. If there was some reason the cooling system wouldn't hold pressure, it would boil around 150 degrees and normal running temperature is 195 with a stock thermostat. I'm not motivated enough to do the research to find the boiling point at 16 psi but something tells me its probably not enough.

Thats coolant or coolant/water mix. The OP said the previous owner of the car had put blue washer fluid in it instead of antifreeze. I don't know exactly what the boiling point of cheap washer fluid is, or exactly what it does with pressure but its probably still lower than coolant/water mix. Just tossing out theories here. Doesn't matter all that much honestly, the heads are screwed and it doesn't matter a whole lot how at this point.

Yeah I know but just wanted to give SOME idea of what might happen. Don't think we are going to find boiling points for window washer fluid in coolant systems unless the idiot that did it originally has done some scientific studies on the matter!!

It's probably 122k, but either way running engine is a running engine.
