They are talking about the one under the hood. Not sure I'd worry about "priming the filter". Not a bad idea but as I said I have NEVER done it and never had an issue. Don't be "anal" - choose a high quality PROPER weight oil and filter and call it a day!!

Yea I never bother doing it either - on either set of the boxes or the tortoises in my fleet. I fill up the filter as many times as I can, while draining oil, getting ready etc, then slap it on when i'm ready, tank it up with new oil, fire and let it go. Manufactures have to build in some tolerance for this - doubt a dealer tech or a grease monkey would bother doing this, no time for that on flat rate tech!-Nick M.

In the late 70s, someone offered a "oil priming device" that brought up the oil pressure before starting the car (virtually eliminating dry starts). The "kits" sold to few anal engineer types but never made it to the "main-stream". Basically a DC pump connected to the oil galleys (maybe through the oil pressure switch not sure I didn't buy one). Guess you'd have to train yourself not to turn the key until the OP gets up? As for dry starts, roller lifters, cams, & rockers pretty much eliminate much of that friction. I wouldn't know much about that except we have Mustangs in the barn too. My boxes are 5.8s with standard flat tappets & regular rockers.

True. Hold the accelerator to the floor and it won't fire. You don't have to pull the pump relay either. Works on my '92 as well. I usually let it crank for a few seconds after an oil change. I also fill the filter as much as possible. No rattles or knocks here.1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.

I've never primed anything after an oil change. that 1-2 seconds of ticking doesn't annoy me any more than it does any other day I start that car.

The engine doesn't quite go bone dry on an oil change. There is enough oil film to keep things protected for the couple seconds it takes to fill the filter up and get oil shoved through the engine. Just don't start the motor and slam the pedal to the floor and it'll be ok.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

After changing the oil in my ride and putting everything back in, I notice a knocking in the engine that would go away in a few seconds, this is why all of a sudden, I am interested"To Find yourself, you must first lose yourself"

if it goes away... it's ok. if it doesn't go away... start saving for a new engine/car.
