    Red hot headers

    i have a 351 .030" over
    ported E7 heads
    484/512 cam
    1.72 rockers
    Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Manifold
    Holley 600 vacum secondary carb
    Full Msd ignition
    apprx 14deg base timing
    mid legnth headers

i started it up today and after about a minute the #8 primary started to turn red hot. It has never done this before, no detonation, no unusual sounds, although i think it might have been idleing high (it was about 1800 RPM, i have not gotten around to setting a proper idle yet but it does not like to run under about 100-1100 RPM). What could cause a condition like this?

now i am thinking that it is the carb, I think the shaft for the secondary butterflies is leaking and allowing air in and causing a excessivly lean mixture on #8 i also noticed yellow stains on the manifold right below there. if this carb is fuxored i will either have to pay to have it rebuilt by next weekend ($80 bucks) or swap my brothere 650 DP onto it.

Sounds to me like you cigarete lighter is backfiring into your flux Capacitors resistor valve. :knowital:

I was gonna say lean too. Be careful, that shit will melt a hole in the piston. Standard stuff about checking for vac leaks at the carb base and intake gasket. I'd say pay special attention to the gasket if only one cyl is running hot.

I think it is carb related since it is leaking fuel out of the shaft, due to the design of the intake the leak is directly above the runner for #8 im going to swap out carbs and see if that helps

If you think there is an intake leak somewhere there is an easy way to find out. Just take some carb cleaner and shoot all the seals, if the RPMs go up then you found a leak.
