    Oil Pan Replacement

    91 5.0 wagon.

The oil pan is pretty badly dented and is leaking. Bought the car with that understanding.

I have a new Ford oil pan. Felpro gasket.

Have read on here about removing the upper intake, jacking motor up w/motor mount bolts removed, put wood blocks in and shims between to hold motor up, then you can drop the pan down and snake it out.

Is there anything else to be aware of besides watch out for vacuum lines etc? And will I get the clearance I need?

I've done Taurus oil pan gasket jobs plenty of times - those cars since they're FWD , just get the Y pipe outa the way and everything is right there once the starter is moved.

I will be following this thread as I need to do this as well......

One thing I would add is to just unbolt the fan shroud....

I'd go for yanking the engine and doing it out of the car, along with any other re-sealing work that needs doing. Makes it easy to clean the massive amounts of grease and goo that are likely all over the place as a result of the leaks.

Next time that motor is coming out is when something else is going in to replace it...

Gota do this in car...no ability to remove engine from car... no space to really either...

            Got a tip...
So after you get the motor up as far as you can, and undo the pan bolts, also remove the pickup, let it fall into the pan, then the pan can come out.

I'll be trying this out in the next month or two with assistance from a friend. I'll document and report back in when it happens.

Ok - finally did this job recently. Remove upper intake. Remove motor mount bolts. Jack motor til hits cowling. Hold it up with an engine hoist, wood blocks between manifold and mount, or something. Then put a block on your jack, jack the trans up just a shade. remove sway bar up front for extra room as well as fan and shround. pull pull pull towards front of car, turn crank to allow it to clear where its stuck (remove dip stick tube). it will come out. But it FIGHTS the whole way out.

Oh and when you pull the pickup, make sure you align the oil pump "driveshaft" into the right hole on the block, (unlike what I did). Now I get to go back and do the job again, and reposition the oil pump driveshaft.

lol - no more late night typing. Apparently I cannot edit.

Meant to say stake/hold the engine up in the air (OR hold it up with an engine hoist).
