91 Marq 5.0 Cracked Exhaust Manifolds & Lincoln Logs

    Hey guys...
So I mentioned in my intro thread how my 91 5.0 Marq Col. Park has cracked exhaust manifolds on both sides. I definitely want to fix that...

This car currently has a Walker H pipe with dual exhaust. Nice setup!

I picked up some 1990 Mustang 5.0 oem headers from a guy off of Craigslist. They look fine. But more research on here is showing me than the 1990 Town Cars also had steel manifolds that are much like the Mustang 5.0 setup, except the flange size is the same and o2 bung will work. So no modifications required. I call that bonus...

So...do the "Lincoln Log" 1990 5.0 Town Car manifolds normally crack like the cast iron 5.0 manifolds? Anything I should be aware of otherwise? Trying to determine if its worth going that route instead.

    Thanks for your help.

I have Lincoln logs on my car with no cracking problems, and I don't expect any. They look like a set of headers, but are very compact. The advantage to them is no cracking, they weigh a lot less and they bolt right up to your exhaust with no modifications to anything including the 02 sensors. If Lincoln logs ever crack, thats news to me.

The disadvantage is that they probably only flow slightly better than your stock manifolds.

But they are a good choice if you want easy installation at a low cost with a factory look.

At this point, I just want to make sure this car has an exhaust system that is sealed with no leaks. The cracked manifolds don't make it sound very good.

Guess I will go to the junkyard and grab them then. No cracking is what I needed to know. Thanks!

Stopped at Pull A Part in Augusta, GA. Said they had a 90 Town Car 5.0 there. I go to the row - row is gone. Thanks for updating your inventory, jerks!

Someone overheard me bit*hing at the staff there that I drove all the way out because of their inventory and told me about a place 10 miles away. Southern Pik A Part. I found it on my phone and drove over. And they had a unmolested 90 Town Car 5.0 in stock All the bolts came out OK, nothing broke. So I brought home some Lincoln Logs for $44 and change ($20/piece plus $2 core).

Will go get some Felpro gaskets from the store and install soon. Will toss on some new O2s while I'm in there.

Hey...you should get the fan shroud and the washer reservoir as well as an aero air box. Will bolt right up to your inner fender since you have a 91 box. You can get rid of the stock air box this way and make everything look really slick.

Everytime I read 'core charge' on wrecking yard parts I get a little bit pissed. That said, you got a good deal on 'em.

Nice price on them, I wish I still had my 90 shroud and fender etc. Oh well there will be another. I'd get the shroud and bottles along with the wheel well too if I were you. 90 TC aren't that easy to come by. I still got my logs in case I need em for my new engine

He did not need the wheel well. 90 and 91 Grand Marquis and Crown Victorias had the mounting points already present on their inner fender. Plus they would't fit the same because of the body differences.

I should have got that fan shroud and bottle. Fan is the same on my car versus the 90 Town car right? It was right there and I was focused on the manifolds. I still could use a shroud, my 91's is warped and bangs against the fan. Dang it. Oh well - I may or may not go back, we'll see if I have time on Saturday AM. There are a dozen self service junkyards within 100 miles of me, another will pop up eventually.

Tried to break bolts loose last night on the exhaust. I hate rusty junk. It's 1990-2003 Ohio life did not help...I was rounding off the nuts on the exhaust. Didn't even try the manifolds.

the manifold to head bolts should not be as bad......the ones that attach the exhaust pipes always need heat to get free

Found two bolts on manifold that weren't even finger tight, so I snugged them up.

Once I get back from my vacation, I'll pick this project back up. Not going to risk breaking a bolt off in the head when I leave next week.

I'll break out the torches and work on it next week.
