    Crankcase In The Condensate

    So I decided to check the car's oil level today to see if there was any still in there. There was, but I also found condensate. A fairly heavy buildup of it, too.


    My mechanic in the past has told me this isn't indicative of head gasket failure and that it's just from me not driving the car long enough to let the moisture boil off. Is this the case?

    I'm worried that it is in fact my head gaskets going south.

    If you aren't letting the engine warm up, then moisture in the oil is normal. Get it good and hot and check again. if you have head gasket problems, the moisture will be considerably worse instead of better.

      It's really common on these cars. My winter wagon looks like a nice pile of cheese under the oil cap come winter, and that's even with driving it 50 miles a day.

        I have been kicking it off the roller cam right at startup lately. I guess I should not do this so much.

        Could it also be a PCV issue?

          its a common issue, it happens no matter what when its cold out really, i was worried about mine when i was running around in ohio, but it was fine after it started warming back up. i also didnt run a pvc screen at teh time and had a new pcv valve in it.
          89 townie, mild exhuast up grades, soon to have loud ass stereo....

            That's the strange thing, it's finally warming up around here.

            I have to go get the girlfriend from work in a while, I might rev the engine for 5 minutes before leaving and seeing if that fixes it.

              A couple of nice 20 mile runs at normal highway speeds should pretty much do it.

                i woudnt really worry about it. just let it warm up before driving and go. my engine was leaking oil like a mofo and a sloppy azz timing chain and it still did just fine until i tore the engine apart .

                    is it all icky at the oil filler tube?,if so,what helped mine was a new oil cap (the seal on the old one was dry n brittle), and replacing the breather hose that came off the oil filler tube (it was old too)

                      Yeah that's where it seems to be at.

                      Oil change is due later this month.

                        I had a 8 mile 1 way commute on backroads for a few years. All I did was go to work and back. Took 15 minutes to get there.

                        During the cold time in SC, for about a month this is what the oil cap looked like on my 2000 DOHC Taurus.

                        Agreeing with the others - normal.

                        I took it on a 250 mile drive, took cap off - all gone.
