    Shenanigans...

So in the morning when I start my car, I notice the engine seems to "lope" or something for a minute or two before settling down.

It's almost like it's out of balance or firing oddly.

Could this be a spun bearing?

no. It's cold. if the fast idle is a little low, it does that.

a spun bearing you would hear a KNOCK.

This is perfectly normal then? It never seemed to do this before.

The IAC may be a little dirty.

Carbs don't self-adjust with temperature changes so its sort of normal to notice changes in running habits as it warms up or cools off.

Fair enough. I'll have the mechanic check out the IAC system.

IAC is only on fuel injection?

Yes. IAC automatically adjusts idle speed. Carbs use a more simple system than that.

And as long as it's not stalling, a lopey idle in march in Red Deer is acceptable for a carbed car.

Its possible that the choke is acting up. Does it run fine when warmed up? It would probably best to take a vid of the engine in action.
