    upper hose issue 88 TC

Wonder if any of you have dealt with this issue when I am under the hood and rev the motor the upper hose sucks shut. I have replaced upper and lower hoses (age), all heater hoses, 2 diferent thermostats, 2 different caps 16lb, new rad(old was cracked and epoxied when i got it), water pump (bearing went out), heater core (steamed windshield)and it has restrict in inlet side. The first themostat i put in I drilled a small hole in second I did not.

From my experience, either the t-stat is not installer right(little hole must be positioned upward) or you have very low coolant.

      +1 low coolant.

Airlock in the coolant. Bleed it out by revving the engine and removing the cap repeatedly until the coolant level appears to drop in the radiator. Top off with coolant and you should be good to go!

Remove the cap, no need to put it on and off, run the engine, waatch the coolant level, just before the thermostat opens the coolant will swell (and maybe overflow, ignore it) and then it will drop when the stat opens up, thats your cue to fill the rad with more coolant, let it run a while longer and top up as needed, when its time to put the cap on, you will know. =-) (it won't take that long, except for initial thermostat opening).

another way to burp air from these is to loosen one of the small hoses going to the EGR cooler on the side of the throttle body and let it purge air through that spot. Re-connect it when coolant starts to come out of the hose and top off the radiator. That should get it pretty much air-free. Engine would not be running for this one, otherwise it'll just spray coolant all over the place when you unhook that hose.
