    Gasket For IAC?

Haven't done one in a while but does the IAC for a 1987 Grand Marquis use a gasket?

yes, but you can often re-use the old one as long as it doesn't tear.

Wonder if the "Standard Motors" IAC is good? Always used OEM but at half the price.....

I have good experience with Standard Motor products. Most are made in USA. Though i have heard they are now offering a new economy line "China made" to stay competitive. So you may have to be a bit more careful now. If I have time i call them and ask before i buy. or ask the part store to look on the box and order the "up" part number if necessary.

.....like gadget said,it uses one,but if u r careful you can ususlly reuse the old one,but I would have one on "standby",just incase.....at least make sure your local parts house has one in stock at least......also,ive had good luck with BWD (borg-warner) IAC valves......done two different panthers with BWD and had no issues with either.

Rockauto has Standard with a "T" in the part number. Wonder if that is the cheaper line??

Thinking about REALLY cleaning out the old one with Throttle Cleaner as it only has about 20K or less on it. I have read you can't clean them but is that true? Thoughts???

you can clean them. take the solenoid motor off to get it really good.

I suppose if the solenoid part is the real problem, then cleaning the valve part wont do much.

This. Clean it out and hope for the best. Also, I seem to have better luck with junkyard 20+ year old factory parts then aftermarket crap.

Standards' 'T-Series' is bottom basement budget.

I'd try cleaning them for sure but according to my research there are 2 things that go wrong with them, one is soot the other wear on the 'teeth'? (don't ask me what freakin teeth).

If it's soot, cleaning may work, tooth wear, no. 1st thing I'd do though.

I see Delphi CV10140 is only a bit more than the T series SMP.

I've had bad luck with anything but Motorcraft IAC valves. Don't know why, but it's been my experience.

It was changed a few years ago and I think it is a "Wells" as I had issues getting Motorcraft (don't ask me why). Had it out last Thur and it didn't seem bad so I may let go, for the present, until I can REALLY look into it (if required).

Dammit! How did I miss this thread? I made mine from gasket material when the local parts stores said they couldn't find the gasket alone. Then I discovered IAC gaskets being sold by themselves from MustangsUnlimited.com. I cleaned my IAC out with carb cleaner the first time I experienced idling issues. Totally fixed the stalling. I got another IAC for standby or to use on another engine; and of course that came with a gasket. So now I am swimming in IAC gaskets. LOL I have to clean my IAC out every 2 months during the winter and every three weeks during the summer. It's drawing oil in there somehow (clogged PCV screen?).

Sounds like A LOT of IAC cleaning. Gotta replace the PCV screen. What year car is yours??
