I bought one at O'Reilly's...I don't remember the brand, but it's life time warranty.

I'd like to learn, I have two dead windows.

my 88 has a dead one now. Gonna have to fix that eventually.

Don't usually have "motor issues". The gear set (specifically the plastic bearings) are the parts that go. New gearset and we're good for several more years!

mine has started the "bang on it with a wrench to make it work" BS... so the brushes are probably shot among other things.

Must be another side effect of southern life. Most of my dead motors where actually dead motors, I've had by comparison very few bushing failures. At least two of the dead ones had dropped their magnets, probably from all the heat/cold cycles we see further north taking its toll.

Would have thought the gearsets/bushings would also go with the temp differences. As an aside, I have noticed auto batteries go ALOT faster down here than when I lived in NYC. Not sure if it is the heat or they are made worse (design/parts)?? Bobby

...heat kills batteries, basically,if you boil the lead plates it kills the battery(causes deposits on the plates)...most batteries are "no maintenence".....but you can still pull the tops to check the water level on some,as the "water" evaporates,it exposes the top of the plates, and it just gets worse from there.....

Always keep the water level up but a valid point. Doesn't seem to help down here and I do nothing negative to wear down the battery.

I had a reman unit (brand unknown, from salvo, 1yr warranty) that lasted just 18mo.
I replaced it with a new dorman unit, which also started acting up just 2mo later.

Indeed, hitting the motor (through the door) gets it working, so what someone told me about the brushes seizing (and a tap frees them up) seems to be true, even in a brand new dorman.
Dunno if that means both are crap, and I should find another brand.
