Illustrated PCV valve and mesh/screen replacment guide anyone?

Ok, so my ability to search this forum apparently blows chunks.

Is there any sort of illustrated, idiot-proof guide to replacing the PCV valve and screen/mesh thingy on these 5.0 engines. I mean, idiot-proof and clear, with pictures, so that even your grandmother's brain-damaged cat could do it? With no chance of an "oops" in the process?

Really, the valve itself is easy enough - I've just no idea what the screen thing is, what the risks are, or difficulties might be, in removing it, if any at all, etc.

Remove valve, remove rubber grommet, stab screen with needle nose pliers and squeeze, pull up and it should come out...

PIA to get to (especialy if you have a bad back) but as John above said it's not involved.

yup... simple stack it in the hole style. No rel tension on any of it... just snug fit of the grommet to the valve. If the needle nose won't work... use a drywall screw and poke it and turn it in a few turns... that should give you enough grip to pull the screen out. also, do when the engine is cool. no sense burning yourself. stuff gets hot back there.

Where is this PCV located, I figured I would change mine since I don't know the last time I changed it

back side of the engine, look for the FAT hose in the middle of everything. the PCV should be on the end of that. Pull the PCV out allong with the grommet it sits in and spin a sheetrock screw a few threads into the screen to pull it out and check it. if it has grime on it, replace it too. Small hands help, but a cold engine helps the most. Unless you're like Popeye or He-man, you'll be able to fit your arms back there and get at that stuff.

Well, for my 89, it sounds like its in the middle of the intake manifold, right?

I already bought the PCV valve and screen filter

Yes, on all the SEFI engines it's right in the middle, in the back. That's an explorer intake, with the upper facing the wrong way...however the PCV location isn't different

That is awesome, Real nice visual. Now I need to buy a grommet. I am hoping that an autozone or advance auto parts has them

last grommet I got was from O'Reilly Auto Parts. AZ didn't have them.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...parttype,11785 Use these part numbers to have the guys at autozone or whereever get you the correct grommet. The ones for the EFI motors are the E6/F7 ford part numbers. They look like top hats with ribs. Any of those will work.
