    fuel pressure retention?

Someone told me the fuel system should remain pressurized for a significant amount of time.

I haven't tested exactly how long, but I know that after an hour, there's no pressure at all. I know, because I went to bleed off the pressure the other day before doing the fuel filter, and there was none there to bleed! Swapped the filter, no 40psi squirt of gasoline.

Is it supposed to hold pressure longer than that, longer than an hour?
If it isn't, what's wrong, and is it a problem?

A friend says it's the residual check valve built into the pump, and that the only symptom might be a slow crank. If that's it, then, I won't worry.

Let me know however if I need to look further into this.
Or if other problems might arise with the pump.

I don't smell fuel anywhere, so I shouldn't imagine that there's a leak. But I'm not really sure how to check for a leak, but if I can put fluorescent dye in and check it after 2 minutes running, maybe I can try that.

It won't hold fuel pressure indefinitely...I had a rail mounted pressure gauge on my old T-bird and after about an hour it would be down just under 20lbs...sometimes a little less and it never gave me any issues....as long as you don't suffer from any long crank issues, I wouldn't worry.

Fuel pump check valve could be bad. Pressure regulator could leak down after a while. A leaking fuel injector. If it holds pressure at all I wouldn't really worry about it. Before I swapped in my adjustable fpr, my system held 40psi for a few hours.

Couple hours is about normal, less than that possibly indicates a problem, more than that is just unlikely. If its not causing you any problems though, I wouldn't get too worried about it.
