and yet another cfi to carb question

Just a few questions for you guys so i can get some ideas for the cfi to carb conversion. Im planning on running a manual fuel pump so i dont have to deal with high pressure return regs and what not but i wanted to ask is it possible to drill a hole in my timing cover for where the fuel pump is located as mine is sealed up. Also the other day i picked up a carb from a wreaked 90-91 p71 that had a 351 with a holley 2300 carb but it had a tv cable going to the trans as if it had a aod! i couldn't tell if it had a aod as the p71 was rolled a few dozen times. did these cop cars come with a aod in those years and it was for sure a 351w. If so i should be able to hook/ rig my aod rod to the carb or find a tv cable for that year p71. I know that the holley should not have been on the 351 but i did read that the state sometimes would replace the vv with a holley 2300.The 351 looked recently rebuilt as it was missing a valve cover and the internals looked brand new as did the holley. Ive tried to save the cfi for as long as possible but its doing some crazy shit right now with a code 18 and its something about the spout being grounded. Im still driving her everyday 60 miles but it seems that under light acceleration in only 3rd gear it runs like crap and its driving me crazy.

if you have the boss for the fuel pump, you can probably hog out the aluminum but you may be better off getting the right timing cover. That entire area under the fuel pump boss needs to be open. Also, you need to remove the cover to install the fuel pump eccentric.

A late P72 351 vic did have an AOD. They all had AODs after about 81. Yes, it has a cable, and yes you can use it. That 90-91 cable is specific too, so don't damage it. You'll probably never find another.

Code 18 means the SPOUT connector isn't plugged in, or the TFI is dicked if its an engine running code. If its engine not running, either there is a short in the wiring or the TFI is dicked. I would try a new TFI module. I'd really be inclined to either fix it or update it to multiport injection rather than go the other way out there in California. Getting a totally stock car through out there seems to be enough of a nightmare. I can't imagine trying to roll back the clock a few years to install a carb.
