took the vacuum readings on the cp today. at first got a solid 20 then droped to 18. it would bounce back an forth betwwen these numbers meaning i still have a vac leak some where in the system. i still havent got the groumet for the pcv valve so maybe thats where it is pulling air from. but anyways i cant remember what the 5.0 should hold a steady vac reading at. thanks matt

17 or higher is typical. If the idle rpm was changing, then the vacuum level will change with it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

thanks gadget. yea i could hear the idle changing just a bit. still has some what of a miss. still no codes and is running smooth as ever but still every once in awhile as an idling issue but not in anyway how it used to be. remember i said that if i try adjusting the timing it will immediatly run like shit. well im thinking that the timing chain needs to be changed. its that or maybe the tfi or a whole new distributor. i will go ahead and buy the pcv kit as i can hear the pcv making a rattling noise while she is idling. what you think? but thats what i thought that the vac reading was better then i thought. thanks again matt........1984 mercury grand marquis ls rebuilt 306 flat top pistons with factory cfi and lincoln headers with single glasspack dual snorkle air cleaner. For the most part, yes they did fix this in 86 but some motors were made with the crappy chain till at least 1988. Hook up a timing light and pull the spout connector. If the timing dances around, the chain is shot. You can also use a breaker bar on the crank pulley to rock the motor back and forth while watching the rotor to get an idea of how tight the chain is. There should be no appreciable movement of the crank before the rotor moves if all is well.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
