Whoever said you needed to remove the grille lies through his teeth! there is PLENTY of room to spare, the grille doesn't need to come off at all. Just took the cam out to the car and it fits perfectly between the water pump and grille.....there will be even more room when the water pump is gone.
john:
that's all you're getting for now :P
goddamn rusting valve covers. i need to get my 1" spacer cut in half and planed so it's flat, need to install my finned covers.
crank pulley is a bit rusty, too. the rust will probably fling itself off once it's started but i'll go over it real lightly with sandpapersigpic

the aluminum one is fairly new. replaced it the winter before last and it works great for now, cost 60 bucks and was nearly impossible to find locally. the OEM one was the HD i believe, there are 2 bolts in the difference.
when this pump goes south i'll get the HD version but i'm not replacing it until then.
been spraying the bolts regularly, i started them out today just to make sure they would come out. i'll wire wheel them all before they go back in - do any of them need a sealant, or am i good with anti seize on all of em?
does the backing plate get a sealer on either side? or just the gaskets?
don't know why they got so goddamn rusty. they didn't go in that long ago, last winter. the guy that used to fix my car for me probably didn't clean the bolts up when he installed it.
the bypass and upper hose outlets are a bit rusty but the pump isn't rusty inside, gonna de-rust everything before it goes back on anyway.
i've never taken the crank pulley off of anything. i have the feeling it's going to fight meLast edited by 1990LTD; 03-23-2012, 12:10 AM.sigpic
