    Sounds WORSE after Lucas Oil

So call me crazy, but the last oil change, I put Lucas in the Oil; 4 Quarts Oil and 1 Qt Lucas. I swear the engine sounds more rough than it did before I put the Lucas in. Is this possible? I thought it was suppsoed to, if anything quiet it down. It sounds like a knock, but I checked it off as the 302 Lopo knock, but after the Lucas, it sounds worse.

Engine has 68K on it, 87 GM, no mods except the smog pump is removed.

    Any ideas?

I will try to get a sound clip tonight.

my 86 lopo makes the same noise. i put 20w50 to slow a rear main seal leak but after i put it in the engine sounded like crap. it sounds like on mine its eaither a rocker or lifter noise. i drained it and put 10w40 in and it made no such noise.

just because its thick, doesn't mean it isn't snake oil, just made with thicker snakes.

when i had the 20w50 it only made the top end noise during warm up. mine sounded like a bunch of clicking noises. the 10w40 solved it all.

At 68k, you shouldn't need magic potions, and the motor should not be knocking. Put just regular 10w30 in it with a fresh filter and see if the noises go away. If they do, just keep using straight up oil. Magic potions and thick oil are for when the motor is already dying.

Exactly. I've got 177,000 miles on mine, the only thing that goes in the crankcase is oil. 5w30 in the winter, 10w30 in the summer.

                Alex.

Yeap.. my motor has about 145,000 on it and I just use Valvoline 10W40 and a Motorcraft Filter nutin fancy when I first got it I put a can of Restore in it and I think it was last year I put some HyperLube thick shit in it and it ran fine but otherwise she just gets straight oil

Lucas isn't snake oil, if you live in hot climates or regularly abuse your car for extended periods of time than Lucas is just what the doctor ordered....however there is no magical oil that will fix worn out parts. Just because there is low mileage on an engine doesn't mean that it can be severely worn....sitting for extended periods or just driven on short trips around town is murder on an engine.

                    Good luck,
                    Don

My mom's CV says 88k miles, but it's probably more like 188k. I switched over to synthetic 10W-30W and the lopo/bearing knock is a little more pronounced now. I'm not worried though. We don't really abuse the car, so it should last until I save up the clams for an engine swap.

Seafoamed it, Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner and a clean oil change. It did absolutely wonders to the car. Amazing
