    temp gauge question

    my temp gauge in the 80 continental goes to the HOT mark after like 3min. i have changed out the thermostat, so my question is it a posibility that the temp sender is faulty?...and its at the front of the intake right?...i feel like such a noob! :drug:

    1981 Mercury Marquis Brougham 2-Door 302/ 5-speed -special blend (GMGT)
    1987 Lincoln Mark VII 5-speed (Errand runner)
    1989 Mercury Grand Marquis (Base Runner)

    Yeah, it's a single wire connection on the manifold. I would also check the fan clutch and your cats, they could be malfunctioning.

      well the cats already have a date with the bar , but the thing is, the engine runs smooth, when its suposed to be over heating, and clutch is new :drug:

        Clogged rad? I went to buy another clutch and it was just as weak as the one on my car. Sucks.

          If that radiator is original I'd not be a little surprised if its clogged. Try flushing the cooling sysem and see if it helps.

            overheating...

            The quick way to check a radiator for clogging... As long as it doesn't have obvious leaking, or clogged up core, which you can see by looking into the neck of the radiator...

            This is easier if you take it out of the car.. but can be done in the car...

            Plug the bottom radiator hose connection.. and fill the radiator up with water... Then quickly remove the plug.. and note how far the water gushes out of the radiator... if it is clean, it should shoot about two to three feet from the radiator... in other words... it should gush out quickly... if it does that it is probably pretty good....

              put a meat thermomiter on the engine and see how hot it is really getting. My friends ranger did that and and the problem was a bad ground on the temp guage
