Smog codes, when everything is working right, checks the reaction time of the O2 sensors. Believe it or not, when that stuff is hooked up properly, and there is no blockage, it will diagnose whether or not your O2 sensors are dead/very slow.

well everything in the smog system is hooked up properly and like I said sometimes it throws codes sometimes not. Seems like if the car has been running longer it has a greater tendency to throw them.

No I figure they should be fine since the cars running fine and im getting 26mpg on the highway.

Fortunately, I'll be doing about 80-90% highway driving.
